EAST BEND — Two area businesses have joined a growing list of donors supporting the East Bend Town Square park project. Diversified Foam of Yadkinville recently donated $10,000 to the park and Carolina Carports in Dobson has donated $5,000.
“These donations move us closer to our goal,” said Jan Hicks, a member of the park committee.
The total amount raised so far is just over $85,000 which includes donations from businesses as well as individuals, Hicks said.
“Our fundraising efforts have been limited by COVID-19 since we want to make every effort to keep people safe, and we understand the impact that individuals and businesses have experienced,” Hicks added. “The Town spent roughly $90,000 on the purchase of the lot, attorney fees, appraisal, survey, design services and the like. The seller, Jeff Eidson, generously agreed to sell the lot to the town at $30,000 below market value. These moneys help us meet the NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund’s grant requirement of a financial match.”
The committee expects to find out of if they will be receiving the NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund grant in the fall.
The total cost of the park project has been estimated at just over $500,000 including the land purchase, planning and design, playground areas, picnic shelters, gazebo, amphitheater, landscaping and other amenities (signage, trash cans, etc.)
“If successful with the PARTF grant, plus the money already raised, we would need approximately an additional $100,000 to complete the project,” said Hicks. “We are actively approaching other grantors, and we hope that some area businesses and individuals who have not yet donated will do so.”
If the town receives the PARTF grant, Hicks said construction could begin as early as this winter or in the spring of next year.
The park committee is also selling t-shirts as well as commemorative bricks that will be on display at the park at the East Bend Town Hall. For more information call 336-699-8560.
