Syracuse, N.Y. — Dave & Busters, a combination restaurant and arcade in Destiny USA, remains closed and is extending the layoffs of 77 employees.
Dave & Busters notified the state Department of Labor under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act recently that the temporary layoffs of 77 workers at the Destiny USA location will be made permanent starting Dec. 8.
The workers were laid off starting March 16 when Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered the Syracuse shopping mall, the largest mall in the state, to close because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Destiny reopened July 10. Most of its tenants have reopened, including many of its restaurants and some entertainment venues (though with restrictions on occupancy levels).
A call to Dave & Busters Thursday morning seeking comment on the restaurant’s status was met with a recording saying the venue is temporarily closed “for the safety of our team members and our guests.” A call to a representative listed on the company’s WARN Act notice was not immediately returned.
The 26,000-square-foot establishment opened on the entertainment-focused third floor of Destiny USA’s expansion in 2013, featuring traditional American fare, loads of big-screen TVs, and dozens of arcade-style video and other games.
